OK—as you might notice from reading Boing Boing this morning, today's the day: at long last The Coldest War is finally in US bookstores and ebookstores today! It's now available in hardcover and DRM-FREE ebook editions. Hooray! [The Orbit UK/ANZ edition is scheduled for February, 2013. And the US/UK editions of Necessary Evil are both scheduled for April, 2013.]
It seems like a strange thing to celebrate, since the audiobook has been available from Audible since January, and since copies of the book arrived in readers' gardens as early as last week. But today makes it about as official as it can get. So again, hooray! I've been waiting a long time for this, so I'm just pleased as pleased can be. And The Coldest War is as published as a book can be.

There are purchase links aplenty here. (The correct link to Audible's edition is this one; I'll fix that soon.) The DRM FREE ebook version is available in Kindle, Nook, iBook, Sony Reader, and Kobo formats. And probably others.
The timing of this release is very fortuitous, as it puts The Coldest War ebook out just after Tor dropped digitial rights management of its e-editions. Hooray for that, too!
ETA: A guest blog post that I wrote for RT Book Reviews just went up. They really liked The Coldest War (hooray!), and very generously invited me to write a little bit about how I came to use the Cold War as the setting for a sf/fantasy novel. I had a lot of fun with this blog post.

Congratulations Ian. I've been telling anyone who'll listen and some that won't how great Bitter seeds is.. The Aussie market isn't massive but every little bit counts..
Questions though, is the electronic edition of The coldest war not available down here? The Kindle link says not currently available.. Been marking off the 17th so be gutted if I have to wait.

Given the tribulations you've been through with the publication of this I suspect I can forgive you for being a little over-excited as well regarding the release. I know other Authors who arent even told that their books (particularly ebook editions) arent available in certain countries at the same time. Damn shame they don't line them all up..usually we aren't to far behind down here but I'll be having to order a hardback from the US. The Silver ling to the "further wait-cloud" is that it will look much nicer on the bookshelf and my missus can't moan at me for buying another book to go on a overwhelmingly full spare room if I have no choice now can she. (Kindles sure do save space in the long run). Of course, this means I'll have to track down a Bitter Seeds hardback to go with it.. TCW can't go on a shelf on its own.

Wow....I just learnt got told by my 'all to clever an he knows it' younger brother how to set my Australian kindle up to purchase books from the American store.....sooooo I now have the coldest war in my hot little hands. Can't wait to start.
Still ordered the hardback though, it's not lying to my wife if I just neglect to tell her I managed to get the ebook edition is it.

I completely understand what it's like to have too many books and not enough room for them. Just last night I was cursing myself that I haven't gotten around to buying more bookcases (yet).

Loved, loved, LOVED The Coldest War! I heard about it on Boing Boing last month, downloaded a preview of Bitter Seeds to see if I was interested, GOT HOOKED, ordered Bitter Seeds and plowed through it, waited impatiently for July 17 and the release of The Coldest War, and finished it up this morning. (I would have finished it on the 18th, but I forgot my Kindle - damn! - and fretted until I could get back to it) I can't wait for the third book, and look forward to anything else you write. Great characters, complex and well-written emotions, wonderfully creepy villians and just a great story all the way around. Keep up the good work!

I worried the long wait between books might have made me build this one up too much and that I wouldn't enjoy it as much when it finally arrived.
I shouldn't have! The Coldest War was better than I'd hoped, I also neglected my family to finish it in one day because I couldn't bring myself to stop reading. I can't wait to see what you do with the third.
